Strikes double in 2011

The MoLISA on January 9, reported at a conference in Hanoi that since 1995, 4,142 labor strikes broke out in Vietnam, including 3,122 at foreign-invested firms of Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, etc., accounting for 75.4 percent.

The number of strikes has been on the rise, especially since 2006. Last year, the number is record high, with 857 strikes in 11 months. The figure was 422 in 2010, 218 in 2009 and 720 in 2008.
